Learn to cook like a professional
Have you ever wanted to learn how professional chefs make food taste so good? Well now's your chance. Bryn Tyrch Executive Chef Simon Hough spills the beans (sometimes literally!), from simple fresh summer salads to catering for a full five course dinner party. After time spent with Simon in our modern well-equipped kitchen there'll be no more excuses for the cakes that wouldn't rise or the split sauces.
Simon remembers well his time learning his trade, and he appreciates the value of a good tutor and hands-on experience. If you've ever tasted his food you'll not be surprised to learn that he's worked alongside some of the top-names in the business. His philosophy regarding food reflects his early learning and the solid initial training he received.
The courses are open to novices and intermediates, and are as much about enjoyment of the process as they are about getting a good result. Topics covered include fish dishes, baking, making preserves, dinner parties, game, etc. In fact almost all areas you would expect of top-class kitchen producing some of Wales' finest dishes.
Course structure and programme
Courses are residential and run for two days - Tuesday and Wednesday. Students meet Simon on Monday evening at an informal gathering where everyone gets to know each other and their abilities. After a good night's sleep in one of our comfortable rooms the course starts at 10.00 a.m., breaks for lunch and finishes at 4.30 - 5.00 p.m. After this Simon prepares taster dishes (the course is full-board) for you to enjoy and aspire to. The next day is spent learning new techniques and building on skills learned the previous day. Though students leave on Wednesday evening you can extend your stay if you wish. We supply all utensils and aprons etc. All you need is a notebook, pencil and enthusiasm.
Course pricing
Courses are full-board from after dinner on Monday evening to Wednesday evening, and are for a maximum of 6 people. The cost is £145 per person full-board, based on two people sharing a twin or double room. It is £175 for single occupancy.
